I think you are going to have to be a bit more specific. What do you have in mind?

There are two answers.

One
It runs Linux. On top of that will run Python. To write a program requires a language to write it in and an operating system in which to work.

Two
You need a goal, towards which to work, be it a game or a robot.
Your initial aim will probably be trivial.
You may find working through a tutorial the easiest way. Most of those I've seen provide a simple game as the initial goal.
Later, more useful aims will occur to you, such as opening your garage door or shooting the neighbour's cat.
If all goes well you will end up teaching the local kids to program.

3. Search on Google for other (many) sources of help.

On a scale of 1-10 If i wanted get one of these things and use it as a media server how much programming "stuff" do I need to learn?

I believe 2-3 if you count Bash scripting in.

That is a little harsh. I would assume he is not a native English speaker and as such, I understand the difficulty with asking questions in a language he may not speak very well.

I also thought he is probably quite young - under 15 - and has never been shown the inner workings of anything.
