Cooling Ram + CPU

Would it be possible cool the ram and CPU of the raspberry Pi?
If you did add heatsinks to the pi, wouldyou be a ble to apply thermal paste??

Have a search through the Forums. It has been discussed on here before and I think most of the more knowledgeable members believe it is not necessary as the RPi is designed to run 'hot'. Although there has been some debate as to what is 'hot'.

Have a look at this post, page 1 shows some neatly installed heatsinks if you decide that you want to use them.

So far no one has demonstrated an improvement from fitting heatsinks (and we wouldn't predict one).
So, by all means fit one, but this will be for your benefit rather than the Pi's.

From everything I've seen, cooling the USP chip would be more beneficial. It seems to run hotter than the SoC

In this thread here (That's a link) I attached heatsinks with thermal tape, and I provide links and the part information for the heatsinks I chose. Now I'm overclocking it, and it's sitting next to a major heat source (my receiver) so in my instance I feel like I have a definitive improvement improvement to the stability of my system. That said a) it might be that the system itself is more stable and has nothing to do with my heatsinks and b) my situation is somewhat unique in terms of it being a high heat area and most people won't run into this situation.

It doesn't make sense to attach a heatsink to something that doesn't get too warm. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

My computer engineer's code is "if it gets hot, it won't last: heat is not your friend". (Exception: if your product's environment is below freezing, you may need to let it warm up a bit.) In RasPi's case, it depends on how hot the components actually get.

The SoC has been tested in ovens. Without a heatsink. It passed.

I saw a 'raspberry pi' heatsink on ebay at £4.50 ish. They are sold as bios or small gpu elsewhere on ebay for £2.50 ish, for a pack of 8! Clever thinking that man, but I'm suprised that he's had 3 sales - aren't we all tinkerers and hackers at the moment?

sorry, I missed this question, I couldn't find anything on amazon, but the heat sinks I listed can be bought very cheaply off Farnell/RS and since they're not back ordered I got them within 7 days of the order. It might be possible to use mouser or digikey, just look for an 8x8mm heatsink for the LAN/USB chip and a 10x10 for the SoC, but I did a bit of looking around for them, the price I paid was the best deal I could find short of going to a second hand electronic store and digging around in a giant bin of randomly sized heat sinks (actually, I basically did this too, but couldn't find the right size there)

We have not seen a failure (i.e, permanent death/overheating) at overclocked and overvolted to 1Ghz. You don't need a heatsink even at that.

I think I need to send you a pretty blue little heatsink to change your mind. Or do you want something more sinister like Black or Red?

Though the SoC runs cool, I can see that there will be environs, like overclockingand high temperatures, that can justify a cooling solution. Cooling the RAM module will draw heat away from the processor. For normal everyday use it is probably not really needed. I have no doubts that when the kids get them they will have heat sinks, fans, lights, colors and just about everything that can be stuck on them including sequines.
