This forum is for asking questions on getting your Raspberry Pi up and running properly.

Please:

1) Make your subject heading clear with information on what the problem is

e.g. Symptom: HDMI not working when using DVI adapter

2) Please put all information on how to replicate the issue in the main body of the post.

3) Please include which distro/SD card image you are using, and which version of that distro/image

In general: if you have trouble try as many (safe!) different operating modes as possible. From the total picture it is easier to have an idea what is wrong. (Not like the email I once got from the Far-east which had only the text: "It don't work")

I'd also like to add something to this if I may, it would also be useful for those that have the necessary kit and ability to post console logs if they have any errors and posting the result to pastebin, then adding the link to your error report.

Over the last few days on the unofficial IRC channel there have been quite a few people coming in looking for help with various issues, not a single one of them has posted anything other than 'I've got XYZ issue'. We've had a few blurry images of a fleeting glimpse of the boot log, from which we're supposed to deduce the exact issue

Of course I do appreciate that not everyone will have the kit or the ability to do this and judging from the discussion on irc channel it's going to take a few tutorials to cover the bases on best practices.

Can you perhaps explain what that means? I've just tried to include the output from dmesg in a post but the forum would not let me upload it as an attachment and it was too big to go in the post itself.

Pastebin is a website where you can paste long bits of text (code, kernel logs, any random text you like), once you've saved it, you will get a link, you can then post that link in your forum post.

copy the text that you want to put in your post, go to www.pastebin.com, paste the text into the big white box, set any highlighting that you need and any other options in the dropdowns, then click the submit button, in the new page, copy the address from your browsers address bar, go to your forum post, paste in your link and tell people what it's for:

you should also check out the pastebinit CLI utility in the repository. handy stuff. read the man page.

Good evening! Have an analog TV set with composite video input. My RPi has been tested with a HDMI monitor, working with no problem. Connecting the composite video output to my TV no picture can be detected. Video input is working with any other source: DVD, VHS, Sat receiver. Got no oscilloscope.
Supposing incorrect configuration, setting the config file is modified from default NTSC to PAL: no change.

I noticed a post with 'solved' in the title.
How does one indicate a post has been solved so a moderator can edit the title, like this minor example for the default time: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=17175
We don't just use the report post feature, do we?

Also, someone mentioned above the posting of logs. Newbies (like I am and ever will be...) may find some help on finding and accessing the logs on the SD card *out* of the RaspberryPi in this post mortem 'out-of-body' post: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=13563.

Report post would work fine. Or PM a mod (which has the same result, but slower)

Your troubleshooting forum code of conduct lists that it is only for posting problems. I may on the other hand have a solution that came from following a hunch based on evidence from several other of the 'Pi Locks Up' type threads.

Would it be alright if I posted a thread about my solution? Or should I find someone elses' problem to hang my suggestion off of?
