Monitor DVI Signal Problem (solved)

To The Raspberry Pi Users,

I recently bought a Raspberry Pi and plugged everything that was necessary into it. I connected it into a monitor screen, using a DVI to HDMI cable. However, when I turn everything on, It says 'DVI - No signal' and the monitor goes to sleep. It would be much appreciated if someone could tell me how to fix this problem.

Yeah, I looked through the page but couldn't find out about how to get signal on the screen.

I assume you meant a HDMI to DVI cable, not a DVI to HDMI cable.

There are some options in config.txt to enforce switching to DVI mode, even if the PI cannot automatically determine that you connected a DVI monitor.

Wait, this might sound like a stupid question, but do I need to program the SD card with Linux before I connect the Raspberry Pi to the monitor?

Would this affect the signal going from the Pi to the monitor?

And does anyone know the easiest program of Linux which I can put onto the SD card?

Well, it is both stupid and sensible. You won't get anything on the monitor until you correctly write the SD card. Using Linux you use a command along the lines of:

(sudo) dd bs=1M if=/path to img file/os.img of=/dev/sdx.

On further reflection, I'm not sure that you realise that you need a Linux distribution specifically geared to the RPi. Perhaps a look at http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads would also be in order.
