Wifi adapter

Hello all

So I have my Pi set up and running Debian “squeeze” I would like to surf the net. I have a USB hub mains powered and my wifi dongle is an cheap one called inventel I dont know much about Linux and debian i just want to get connected to the internet.

Any help or point in the right direction because there are many posts and I do not know where to start.

Start here http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#USB_WiFi_Adapters. Look to see if your wifi dongle is on the list. Don't panic if it isn't just means your will need to do a little more work.

Hi
You now have two posts asking for help with you wifi dongle. You will need to work out the chipset used by the wifi dongle.

Plug the dongle into your Pi.
At the terminal type:-
lsusb

Then report back here the output of that command.

Search for drivers. If no drivers available no chance to get it working unless you wrtite your own.

Following links from the ebay item I ended up at a page for downloading drivers for the device (windows drivers). Downloading and uncomressed the archive and the driver files inside are labeled prism2. From a prism wiki it doesnt look like prism2 deviced can use the same driver as the prism54.

And here is decribed how to firmware get drivers for prism2 on linux debian. There is a howto on installing drives, but the command lines might need modifying a bit before using on the Pi.

Sorry, you are right. Somehow I missed the part where bigmano stated the ID of his adaptor, so I failed to connect those two informations. I was tricked my reading that the windows driver name was prism02.

Do you really want to continue with this adaptor? It is "G" adaptor. The latest adaptors are "n".
If you try to connect to a Access point (AP) with this there could be problems. The AP will need to be configure to "g" standard and in my experience there are comunication difficulties.
I suggest you buy a "N" type. The only cost a few $
