where to buy a micro usb power supply & choosing a sd card

the only two things I need to purchase before I can start using my raspberry pi is a micro usb power supply and I need help choosing an sd card

I looked on newegg.ca for a micro usb power supply but did not find any, I need one that meets the requirements for the rpi (at least 700mA at 5V)

I also need help picking the right sd card that would work well for the rpi

You should find that power supplies for common devices such as Kindles or most tablets will do the job. You will also find that iPhone/iPad chargers can be used in conjunction with a USB->micro USB cable that supports charging.

Unfortunately, I live in Canada.

I found a nice one in camera area of large discount store walxx.. that had 3 interchangeable usb port ends. The nice part is the interchangeable end makes for a simple power disconnect adapter---------------> >---pi plug unplug

Name on item was Onn output .8 amp 5v input 100 to 240 v. cord is about 4.9 foot and the ends are 6"

That should work fine (I use one myself). It is the output side that matters and if you look closely that one is rated at 5V 1A. All you need is a USB to Micro USB cable which you can easily get from somewhere like Amazon. You want a reasonable quality cable that is not too long to kep it's resistance (and thus the voltage dop over it) down.

I ordered the Newark 5.25 V 1 A psu at the same time I ordered my new model B (through element14/newark) and the RPi overclocked at 930 MHz still has 4.99 V at T1/T2 with 100 mA BT mini-receiver (keyboard/mousepad) and 500 mA mini USB WiFi adapter connected directly to it (I am posting this from the Pi playing internet music).

will 4,8Volts suffice with 1.0mA? will the low voltage physically hurt the unit?

In the US, try a Goodwill Store with a computer section. I visited one last week and they had a basket of old 5V cell phone charges that could work if they have a micro-USB connector. Flea markets could be good also with people getting rid of junk.

low voltage wont hurt it it will just not work or not work enough to be stable [well it may cause SD card corruption]

@efflandt -my iPhone 5v 1A little guy is doing just fine for now. I've got it cranked up about where you do, but my HP Studio II storage box is self-powered, so I'm probably not drawing squat right now. The question I had is how are you posting to this forum from the PI? What are you using? I ask because all I've been using is Raspbmc and I don't see any browser add-ons for it. ty

Nevermind, bought a starterkit from MPX, there was everything I needed to use the Raspberry Pi
