FWIW... my notebook does not like SDcards.... it has a SDCard slot, and it will mount them once and not again, unless I reboot... sometimes it will not even after a reboot.
I switched over to using a SDcard that came with one of my MicroUSB cards, it is a MicroUSB to SDcard adapter. What is cool about this is that I can take the MicroUSB card out, put it into a USB Thumb drive and use it with USB on my notebook, and that works all the time.
I seem to have a bunch of 8GB MicroUSB cards, most of which as a result of upgrading to 16 and 32GB cards in the past.
So it is easy to use the same SCcard adapter and use a couple 8GB MicroUSB cards for different images.
The SDcard adapter works well with the RPi.
Image shows what it looks like though mine is a different brand (SanDisk)
