SD Card Partitions

Hi. Ok so basically I am going to download the Rasprian "Wheezy" OS on to my 8gb SD card will I still need to resize the partitions of my card?

When you write the image to the sd card a number of partitions will be automatically created (the image write is done at a low, also called raw, level).

When Raspbian starts it will offer to resize the partitions to make full use of the sd card. This resize will be done during the next boot, which will take several minutes to complete. So be patient!

N.B. I don't use Raspbian. The above is my understanding based on forum posts.
