Hi,
I'm trying to make the Pi more portable (ie replace ethernet with wifi and eventually run it off batteries).
I have seen the list of approved devices here: http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals
Can you recommend a wifi dongle that works well when powered directly from the Pi without the need of a powered USB hub?
Thanks,
Tom

The later Rev 1 with the 0 ohm resisters and the Rev 2 boards will have the advantage over the Rev 1 boards with polyfuses on the USB. Most of them will draw more than 140 mA under some circumstances. If you have USB polyfuses, butchering them might be an idea if you want the powered hub out of the equation.

Don't judge Linux by the Pi.......
I think my fuses have 0s stampted on them. Do I have the Rev.2 board hten?

The picture is a Rev1 with short circuited polyfuses. The Later Rev ones have black components (zero ohm resisters) instead of the green ones in the picture. The Rev 2 have a single brown component and a hole in that position. It sounds like its a later Rev1 with the 0 ohm resisters. It shouldn't be a problem.

Well, my Edimax EW-7811un[/] and [i]D-Link DWA-131 freeze/disconnect and they are about 20-30 centimeters from the router...

Have you tried disabling power management on the Wifi adaptor?
