movies, XBMC, newbie

I have ordered my RPI. Its on the way. I am completely new to Linux and such. I have read some of the posts on here but still confused.
Is there any info somewhere to help me with the programming side of things?
To put movies onto the SD card is that just drag on drop while I have it plugged into my computer?

Looking forward to using the rpi.......just really confused currently.

No , its not drag and drop. But you can use most USB pen drives and
USB Hard disks easily. Or , if are connected to a network , Filezilla
and other programs.

I will be plugging it into my current network router via Cat5 until I can buy the Wifi. I will see if I can figure out how to use the two programs you have mentioned.
After using windows for all these years this is a very foreign area to me. I think there is going to be a bit of a learning curve.

If you want to be able to drag-and-drop over the network then you can do that using the default file manager as long as your windows computer is setup with a network share.

In the address bar put

Code: Select all

smb://<ipaddr>/<sharename>

and it should prompt you for the username / password for your Windows computer.
