Tapatalk on the forum?

When asked about Tapatalk on another forum I frequent, here's how the owner replied:

The TapaTalk plugin (and others) allows a third party complete access to user profiles and all other data in our site database. We don't like that idea, so we aren't going to use it.

Personally, I would prefer that Tapatalk did not have carte blanche to the Raspberry Pi forums. -1 from me.

Exactly! So we need to educate and encourage server admins to be diligent with the information we provide them. One less security hole is one less problem we have to worry about in the future.

I thing tapatalk is serious. The interface to it uses account passwords and without tapatalk can do nothing. For that it is not less secure then the webif. Only your have to learn to integrate well, maybe ask someone! please.

So many sites are using Tapatalk like XDA-developers and so much other... And they haven't any problems with it. So why it should make troubles on the Raspberry Pi forum?

Exactly, reading every other post 'Sent from my iPhone using TapaTalk' is very annoying viral marketing; I know you can set it off in the app but most don't do that.

Well... have the mods decided anything on this subject yet?

I understand the notification while browsing the forum from a mobile device nags some people, but the benefits of using a app that reduces data traffic and brings to hand the same controls you have on the big devices are greater than the inconvenience. Yes, this is a FOSS-oriented community and there are many people aligned to RMS - which, and having met in person, may I say, is quite the textbook pain in, well, you get the idea - that will rant about the utility not being FOSS. For many other people, though, maybe the majority, having a tool that optimizes forum interaction and not being able to use it here for no critically relevant reason is... dull.

Please keep emotions off the comments. Or not. I really do not care, other than the thought that emotions are a bit misplaced while discussing logics.

I don't mind Tapatalk as long as I don't get the annoying popup whenever I access it on the devices that work fine at the moment without Tapatalk. i.e. my PC, laptop and all my mobile Android devices.

I'm assuming the forum owner can turn off the popups?

I use it for all my forums and it would be much more convenient to be able to interact with this, the official forum, rather than the 4 or 5 unofficial ones that I am offered on tapatalk.

Attempting to use the forum via my Nexus 7 tablet is okay for reading, but posting is very hard as the input box doesn't work properly with the keyboard for some reason. Would not even attempt it from my phone.

All technical forums I use have it.

with the popup removed it gives people the option of using Tapatalk if they want but doesn't affect those who don't.

I use TT on many other forums. It's helps make the forum for responsive. Not a bad thing if you want to help promote usage.

I too raise a +1 for tapatalk. I think it's a lot handy than a browser.
