why wont internet work

can some body in simple english tell me how to get my internet woking on my rasbeery pi i am trying raspian weezy
my ethernety cable works on my lap top
do i need to set it up on the very first start up or do i need the drivers for it hel help help

if some has a download link for the mulitmedia xbmc i been told it more for media centres

It should just work once you plug it in to you router (or whatever you use to access the net usually) Any error messages or similar?
