User / password and internationalization

Just al little hint for all you diligent distro builders:

It would be really cool if you could unify username and password in Pi land (something like pi / pi, easy to type, easy to remember even if not secure), so people (a lots make their first steps in Pi and Linux land) don't get confused with all the differnet combinations (even changing from one version to the other). And bare in mind, that Pis are sold everywhere around the globe. In continental Europe (I'm from Germany) z and y on the keyboard are swapped compared to britisch and US keyboards. So it would be clever to stick to charcters anyone can access on first boot.

Afterwards the distributions should guide the user through the settings of locale, keyboard layout and timezone.

We may be advanced Linux users, but most buyers are not.

And in the debian-wheezy beta distribution is a seperate config-tool (rpi-config?) for setting you RPi to your needs.

French azerty keyboard users also have this difficulty with the "raspberry" password.

Once again, the wheezy spindle beta image has the best solution to the problem, so far. Rather than changing the default password, it makes it easy to choose your own keyboard layout and/or password, before the first time that you actually have to type it.

And I'm aware of the Wheezy stuff, but it's still beta, you cannot find it here on the official download site and there's quite a number of reports about problems with the config tool. We know it's still work in progress, but such bugs pretty much turn off a lot of common people right now (partly to false expectations, but that's another story).

Generally you're right. Easy config on first startup, before having to type anything is the way to go.
