What software on RPI?

Can anybody tell me whether using Debian on Raspberry Pi is the same as Debian on ordinary PC? Are there the same packets, programs or there is much less? I want to buy RPi because it's cheap and will give me a lot of fun. But I'm afraid of Raspberry being much worse option than PC.

The Pi is a worse option than a PC, an old PC will run Debian far better than the Pi, but you can take that for what it's worth - I own 3 Pi's - they are great fun.
Don't judge Linux by the Pi.......
Hm, but are the packages on RPi (Debian OS of course) working in the same way as on PC? In general, will this stuff work?:
-apache;
-asterisk;
I don't want to buy big old Pc only for using linux console. I will install on RPi only console to do some funny stuff, like camera monitor for my house etc.

Apache and Asterisk are both in the Pi repositories. Apache works OK if slowly, can't vouch for Asterisk. Judging by the number of dependancies it wants to install, its pretty involved. Be aware the Pi is pretty tetchy about USB webcams, the drivers are there, but they trip over the Pi's USB. Some work others don't.

Well, now I know almost everything. But, one more question: is it true, that RPi doesn't play movies (avi or other formats) smothly? I've read that week ago something about that, which made me disapointed
How it is in real?

This only holds true for ANY other player than omxplayer or XBMC.
Those two options manage h.264 1080p smoothly though.
H.264 and MPEG4 ASP are free. For other formats you can buy licensens (MPEG2 and VC1).
Only Sorenson VP6 , VP7 (Flash videos) and even VP8 do not work smoothly.

no not true well.... YMMV
Mpeg4 .264 play fine on standard machines
mpeg2 and VC.1 will play fine when you buy the appropriate licence file
random encoded will have to be decoded in software so make things go chuggy - all depends
but if you have them encoded in a decent format [see h264] and no worries
