TBH, the fact we should have 500k in the field by September I find faintly miraculous given the original estimates! In no-ones wildest dreams did these sort of figures feature.

The problem with the Raspberry Pi foundation was that there is a want for small cheap and powerful computers. This is evident by the amount of demand demonstrated. At the start I bet you guys were just thinking small school based requirements?

I am waiting for the day that students are given one each by their school, or foundation's (buy one, gift one) when it all settles down. Then the fun will begin.

What I meant was there was this HUGE untapped market out there for exactly what the Rasp Foundation created, which is evident by the explosive ordering of the devices, and not even within the school system.

Thankfully I have a slice of the pi, so I am able to wait a bit for the bulk orders for my school, and my students love it, though what is worrying me, is that until we get into saturation the waiting list is going to be huge. This in itself is a good thing, because as a school I would not be wanting to have a large amount of computers and find that they have a bug.

I still cant believe the computer that I spent over $3000 on is now used less that the Rasp Pi, which was less than $50!

I do find it amazing that there is this huge market, and no-one knew it was there, not even the Raspi foundation. It's defo. there and I think now the cat is out of the bag it will continue to be there. I'm expecting quite a few copycats, and higher spec but still cheap devices to appear over the next year to feed this market. It could also be the best thing to happen to Linux for some years, if not forever!

Asking when you can buy in bulk is like asking Apple when the iPhone 5 is going to be released - and if they don't give you a date right now you aren't buying one.

Bulk orders will be available when the back orders are sorted, the educational release is sorted and the suppliers feel like it. I suspect no one knows when that will be. End of story.
