I had the impression that this was not done on the current RasPi, because it was *not* trivial, at least from a cost perspective.

It's all a matter of perspective   When you're having to count every nickle and dime then a cost that most people would consider trivial quickly becomes a deal breaker

Rory obviously got one of the "press issue" kits

The device arrived with an SD card loaded with a Linux operating system and various demos.

Not that I begrudge him the courtesy - he did a lot to tell us about the Pi last May!  Its a good article too....

He did indeed - and I doubt very much that there would be a Raspberry Pi now without Rory.
