I'm building a little review section for RPI cases, rounding them all up with all the details (price, website etc) and the only commercially available one I can find is the modmypi.com case. Are there any others out there yet? (Google is proving useless!)
Thanks
Nick

I'm building my own case(out of a Game Boy as some of you might have seen). I'm also designing a few different types for my 3D printer(Makerbot Replicator).
I did purchase the above case from ebay last night anyway as it looks nice and its no harm to have a few different types. I'll take a few pics when it arrives with the Pi inside and give a small review.

That clear one is a great looking case. If anyone has one / purchased one, please could you do a very quick review?

Why are they all so expensive? I would think twice before paying 30% of the price of a Pi on a plastic box.
That"s one thing about our favourite bit of tech - it throws questionable value accessories into sharp relief!

acrylic is actually more expensive than most give credit for.
the individuals making these cases arent buying huge quantities.
further you have the cost of
manual labour
parts
research and development
engraving/etching/laser cutting
they will also have to recover the costs of any specialised equipment in making the cases

Amen to the costs involved. With any new tech, first offerings will be expensive until people recoup their RD and prototyping...soon enough prices will drop.

So I got that case anyway. Few small issues that the seller is sorting out for me(broken corner, probably in transit etc).
Anyway, I wont do a review of it until I have all the functioning parts but so far it seems decent. Perhaps a few tweaks to the design would improve it but the person who made it is open to changing it if the end product is better but still profitable.

I like that Ebay case, I hope they get some more made. In the meantime if anyone has the correct tools and a knackered LCD monitor you will have the raw material for making your own perspex case.
Behind the actual LCD panel is a very nice and very high quality light diffuser made from a Perspex looking material, this is see through (though has a series of small white dots for diffusion purposes). The thickness of the LCD panel and weight is all down to this one component. With the right plastic cutting tools you have ready made case material.

CAUTION!
Depending on the make and age of the LCD depends on whether the CCFL tubes are held in by a small screw and therefore easily removed,or if they form part of the metal case. If the latter, they will often break (the tubes are very very thin compared to what you might be used to) when removing the metal back panel to gain access to the acrylic/perspex diffuser.
I'll try and take some pictures at work tomorrow and post them for those interested.

They seem like nice cases with a breadboard area, which would come in handy when keeping your projects nice and tidy!
