Hi everyone

I'm looking at making one of my pi's into a home server (with a 6tb HDD on the back) to store all my photos, movies ect. I already have an XMBC pi, so wanted somewhere to store everything for it to play lol.

anyone else done this? Any advice/pointers/things to avoid?

Normally, I'd just use an old pc for this sort of thing. But i dont have one to hand, and the pi is cheaper lol

Check which XBMC distros come with SAMBA preinstalled.
Some do.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org

I didnt want to use XMBC as a server. Its not overly efficient as a server (it has a gui lol), But i was looking at using Arch with SAMBA installed onto it.

Thanks for the feedback

I've just installed Bittorrent Sync onto one of my Pis and it is awesome. Very easy to set up, even if you're not knowledgeable about linux
