which arduino should i choose?

I know this isn't a real answer to your question, but it's my 2cents. I was interested in getting an Arduino, too, then I got the Gertboard, which includes the same microporsessor, and allows you to run the Arduino IDE on the Raspberry Pi. It's just like having an Arduino, except the shields won't just plug into it.
