I apologize if this is a newb question in advance. Is it possible to have my pi plugged into Ethernet and create a network connection between it and my laptop using a wireless connection?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks,
Todd

The answer is 'yes.'

Which part of the setup are you having trouble with? To make focussed advice possible, what operating systems are you using on the Pi and the laptop, and what do you hope to acheive using the network connection?

I haven't tried anything yet as I'm looking for advice on the easiest way to do it. I've found ways to connect to the raspberry pi using SSH, PUTTY from windows etc... but wanted to reach out on recommendations on essentially just dropping files onto the external usb drive attached to my raspberry pi.

Again, Raspberry Pi is hooked into the internet with an ethernet cable and my laptop is wireless.

Raspberry Pi OS and version
OpenELEC - 3.0.0

XBMC version
12.1 "Frodo"

Windows version
Windows 7

Hope that helps and thank you for your reply. Let me know if I've missed anything and I'll get it for you.

Thanks again,
Todd

Got my laptop on wireless hooked up to the ethernet connected pi using smb (windows network). At first I thought I'd need to copy files back and forth but video streamed great between both systems.

Woot!
