My head is going to explode! This device is using up all my time, and I'm getting nowhere. I really must get out more, even though it's lashing down outside, it must be healthier than this.
Look out for another "Pi for sale" soon.

Maybe you should do some gardening. Now, if you can just get the RPi to control greenhouse watering.... Ooops

Gardening? Life's too short for that.
Now if the Pi could divert the rain somewhere else.....

Some sort of idea of what the problem is might elicit an appropriate answer.

As someone who has spent his life doing heavy physical work, and only ever before using Windows variants, maybe you can appreciate my problem.
I didn't spend the eighties tinkering with computers, I spent that period ( and ever since) falling off fast motorbikes, going to the Isle of Man TT, and Irish road races up to present. I like a fix of high speed adrenaline, but I always had a slightly technical mind, 200+ satellite tv systems installed kept that part of me happy, but the Pi... well it's just too technical for me, no programming knowledge, but I just had to see what it was about, and it' like running around in circles. I've had enough, I know when to quit.
Now, where the hell is that hammer??

Well, I build cars and (used to) race them, as an antidote to sitting in front of a computer all day.

I'm fairly competent at both, so it's definitely possible.

What was the problem again?

Can't get printer support (PiBang), xbmc (openelec) keeps freezing, Raspbian and Debian keep the cpu at 100% where they were ok before, composite output is rubbish, no os I have tried will recognise my hdd in a powered dock.
Berryboot worked well for a while, I had two os working but now it refuses to work with PiBang, where it worked great a couple of weeks ago, and openelec with it is totally useless. I seem to be going backwards.
Using a 32" HD tv with it must be an expensive way to use a web browser, because that's about all I can get it (the Pi)to do well.
This is no criticism of the RPi, by the way, just that I lack the knowledge and experience to get any use from it, and I just don't have the time to waste (and I am unemployed) simply trying to get some functionality out of it.
Time to move on.
