With a lot of people talking about Raspberry Pi for control systems, I am surprised that there has not been more talk on Real Time Operating systems.

Is there any work going on on a Real Time Operating system?

Googling round I found FreeRTOS, are there any better options?

For those not in the know, Real Time Operating systems have options to disable interrupts so that you don't miss that vital signal from some bit of electronics.,

Here"s a few real-time projects to look at:

eCos, RTEMS,  RTLinux, RTAI, ADEOS, Xenomai

What about QNX - used it in the late 80's on 386 intel chips and it worked well.
