DIY PI Security Senors or Alarm system

Following on from my exploits here http://jas-hacks.blogspot.co.u.....panel.html after many months of head scratching. I wanted to gauge if there was much interest in me creating an interface for the Raspi. The alarm sensors are widely available in the UK and relatively cheap and work in Europe. I would also think that they could be used for applications outside of security.

I am very interested in what you are doing with the raspi and would like to chat with you offline if you are interested. Contact details on www.ipalarms.co.uk
Looking for people developing Rasppi + PIR sensor applications

Yeah, I'm interested! Just got my pi and once I get a hang of the basics I want to try and build an intruder alarm that I can access through the Internet, should be possible as these are commercially available, although I have no idea how I will do it at the moment.
Apologies for all the stupid questions!

Seems overly complicated as a motion detector is easy to attach to the GPIO almost directly probably cheaper than the sensor unit alone for an alarm system.
Just another techie on the net - For GPIO boards see http:///www.facebook.com/pcservicesreading

Anyone thought of using the Pi as a replacement panel?

Just wondering if anyone thinks that existing sensors might be able to be interfaced to a Pi somehow??? surely they are only switches? If someone has an existing installation then could it be possible to put the Pi in the place of the panel?
