Swap partition

Got the latest foundation build as of a couple of days ago and while the docs describe manipulating a swap partition I don't see any created. I have proc/vfat/ext4.

Is the swap implicitly set up inside my ext4 partition or what?

I don't understand what you mean exactly, but see below the swap commands on my Raspbian. So it's a file 'swap' in directory /var/

Code: Select all
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ swapon -s
Filename            Type      Size   Used   Priority
/var/swap                               file      102396   22468   -1
pi@raspberrypi ~ $
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ ll /var/swap
-rw------- 1 root root 104857600 Sep 18 12:39 /var/swap
pi@raspberrypi ~ $

Yes, I think I know what Rutherford is getting at, as, as a newbie, I've been through this process myself.

I'm pretty sure the docs are wrong when they mention a swap partition, cos I undersatnd it it's actually a swap file within the ext4 partition, like in Windows. In fact in one file *somewhere* it does comment not to use swap on or swap off.

BTW, I have a USB Hub and a 4GB dongle plugged into it - is memory used from this dongle?

Anyway, if I'm incorrect please say to set the record straight....
