as of 2 minutes ago i'm getting this when i try to apt-get update:-

W: Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.raspberrypi.org_debian_dists_wheezy_main_binary-armhf_Packages Hash Sum mismatch

this is a right out of the box install of raspbian downloaded today

does anybody know if this has affected all the mirrors or if its local to me (usa eastern).

thx

That error is reffereing not to the main raspbian repository but to the repository maintained by the Raspberry Pi Foundation for Pi specific packages.

It's possible that you caught their repository mid-update, it's also possible that it is broken. Finally it's possible it's a problem with your internet connection.

Can you try again in half an hour or so and report back.

i took the raspberrypi.org source out and the update worked, looks like their repository is busted for now.

No problems here:

Code: Select all
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo apt-get update
Get:1 http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org wheezy InRelease [12.5 kB]
Get:2 http://archive.raspberrypi.org wheezy InRelease [7,665 B]
Get:3 http://archive.raspberrypi.org wheezy/main armhf Packages [5,738 B]

Can you manually reach http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/ with your webbrowser?

I am having the exact same problem as James. In addition to getting the hash sum mismatch when trying to update packages, when I try to search for any packages with the apt-cache search command I get the following.

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ apt-cache search game
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/mirrordirector.raspbian.org_raspbian_dists_wheezy_contrib_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Jame_s, were you/are you having the same problem? If removing the source worked for you can you let me know how to do that?

I am having the same issue as Jame_s was originally, so when I try the sudo get-apt update I get the hash sum mismatch error. When I try sudo apt-get upgrade I get:

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/mirrordirector.raspbian.org_raspbian_dists_wheezy_contrib_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
pi@raspberrypi ~ $

It is a strange issue, and I have tried many times on Friday and today so I don't think I am catching them at some kind of server update unless I have the worst luck in the world.
