Hi,
Anyone else from Warrington UK using the Raspberry Pi? Maybe time for a forum/web site and get us on the map?

Got my Pi, SSH and VNC up and running. Sharing the Raspi and viewing it on my main machine and laptop too. Looking at Python today. I have some CuSeeMe reflector software so I may run the Raspi on that at some point as a CuSeeMe server/reflector.

I'm based at Ellesmere Port, so just down the road on the grand scheme of things. Have VNC / SSH set up and Raspbmc on another card.

Plans are currently:

Monitoring home network and NAS units such as alarms when disk space runs low.
Media system obviously
Re-learning Linux after several years off.
Learn Python and start kids on Scratch in due course
Transcoding backed up DVDs to correct format for raspbmc

Try to get GPIO working and have the machine talking to the real world, but not sure what yet.
When camera is released, play with that.... security cam/webcam as first step, maybe something else depending on what software tools are available.

That, I think is it for now.

OK guys, I`ll start the ball rolling. I opened a free phpBB forum for now and loosely set it up. I`ll build up the available information in there over the next few days. I put in a few sample forum fields for New User Info, Useful Links, How To and Python. Then added a post from myself (was only me there so I volunteered lol) and this has some really useful links I put together of information thats helped me so far.

If you wish to join, chat, contribute, suggest forum fields and info then go right ahead. Its not all about me or the forum. Its you, the people of Warrington and surrounding areas who want to get together and pool information. Help each other, learn a little in the process and progress our usage of the little Raspberry Pi chappie.

I have a dedicated forum for my photographic group that I may transfer this to later, it too is phpBB but I host the database on that. If this takes off then we can use it later and add Tapatalk and Forum runner, so the forum can be accessed on Smart Phones, like Android, Iphone and Blackberry as well as on a PC.

I grabbed the tracker link and put it on the forum site, zeeteex. Hope thats OK..

I live 15 miles away - don't see the advantage over this forum unless there are going to be meets - I've collected some bits and pieces that are surplus to requirements e.g. HDMI lead that could be useful to someone else - you cant swap hardware over the internet!

Another meet idea could be a case making workshop: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=6119&p=97946#p97946 - you can't do that over the internet either

Great, yes.

Based in Manchester, but meeting up in Warrington is good for me.

I have the Raspberry Pi in a great little acrylic case from Shropshire Linux User Group. My wife likes it, so that ok. :)

pygmy_giant: What I suggest you do, no offence intended, is go form your own group. It's obvious you`re not interested in this one. Perhaps it would be better just to skip posts you`re not interested in.

I live near Macclesfield. Not too far from Warrington :)
I am thinking of setting up a Coder Dojo / RPi group in Winsford (where the school I teach in is).

Chester resident here - I'm not a driver so bound by trains to a large degree but I would be interested too. I'll keep an eye on that forum...

I'm in the Stockport Area - I know the OP is from Warrington and wants this Warrington Centred but its a bit 'small towny' - better, from an attendance/activity basis to be Manchester based. I'm happy to come to a Manchester based meet with my clutch of gadgets - and no offence but having to go to my Birchwood based office once a month is as much time as I'd like to spend over that way. . .

No offense, but as I said to someone earlier. Feel free to go make up your own group.

A Warrington meet is an ideal place as it's central between Liverpool and Manchester.
