Wifi Fun (Unpredictable Ralink RT3070)

So, I have two USB wireless cards with the RT3070 chipset.

The first is a
SMCWUSBS-N3

The second is a
Linksys WUSB100 v2

The short of it is both wireless cards will work with the RT2800usb drivers.

The problem: I will receive 3 different behaviors when I fire off wpa_supplicant.

1.) works great 1-3ms latency. no notable issues
2.) high latency 80-250ms
3.) will join network and repeatedly try to rotate keys and re-associate.

I have a suspicion it may be a WPA vs WPA2 or TKIP vs AES issue but don't know how to further debug.
Let me know if there is anything I can contribute to provide some more insight--Linux wireless/driver issues are the edge of my knowledge.

There is nothing terribly obvious in the logs. Though the SMCWUSBS-N3 seems to work better than the linksys.

I will try and figure this out on my own but any help is appreciated.
