Set date and time

Running Arch Linux. Tried to set date and time with date -s "18 JUL 2012 08:10:00" but it is 1970 again after restart.

The Raspi has no battery RTC so the clock is reset on each reboot.
Soon to be unemployed software engineer currently specialising in camera drivers and frameworks, but can put mind to most embedded tasks. Got a job in N.Cambridge or surroundings? I'm interested!

Is there anyway of setting the correct time through ntp or other ways at boot time ?

No, but there is a way to get clock nearer to the mark
