I might be misunderstanding your question. If you're looking for the correct login details for the latest Debian image, they are as follows:

Code: Select all
username: pi
password: raspberry

If you literally cannot type anything, do you perhaps have another keyboard handy?

You're not supposed to be able to type anything at the password prompt. It's designed like this.

Here's how the login process should work.

1. You're presented with the login prompt.
2. You enter "pi" as the user.
3. You hit return/enter.
4. You're then asked for a password.
5. You type "raspberry" baring in mind that the password entry is invisible.
6. You hit return/enter again to confirm.
7. You're then logged in.

I now understand the difficulty you've experienced doronfynn. The password entry is invisible because it's a security feature. It's similar to how password entries are often marked ******* on websites or most programs.

Let us know how you get on.

(Thanks felix123 :-))

I can assure you it most definitely is NOT raspberry, as I have just downloaded and installed it, raspberry is not accepted as password either via ssh or local terminal.

The password is suse on the version I downloaded "debian6-19-04-2012"

Cheers

Hiya folks,

I'm also having the same problem trying to log into debian6-19-04-2012

I've tried using the username/pw combos, pi/raspberry and pi/suse but neither seem to be working. Any ideas? I'm completely new to programming.

Thanks

pi / raspberry didn't work for me either. I did however get root / root to work and let me in.

Once i was in i checked the /etc/shadow file and there was no shred of evidence that there was any other users. Not sure what is going on, but the info doesn't seem to be consistent.
