Mailserver with Postfix/Dovecot

Hi all,

I'd like to set up a mailserver for personal use. I've done this before on Ubuntu server, so I have a little experience.
When I want to install Postfix not all packages are available. When I look at sources.list I only see one repository. Are there any additional repositories I can use for Debian Wheezy which contain Postfix/Dovecot?
Thanks in advance!

I want to run a mail server as well, haven't had enough time with my pi to sort it yet, having yet to find a complete install set.

I found a post in which a pi was running Citadel, but the repository is missing a couple of files and won't install completely - just don't have the time now to find them or install alternatives...

I think this application (mail server with webmail access) is an ideal subject for a pi so I hope it can be sorted soon.

Hi guys

My friend and I, managed to get an email server working on Debian using the following setup guides;
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Postfix
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Dovecot
Bothh of these worked perfectly, unfortunately having just moved to Raspbian the dovecot config setup has changed and we are currently having issues.
If you are on the original debian image, I suggest the above. If you on Raspbian, any help would be required sorting the SSL config out!!

I just started with the dovecut based solution on the Debian 6 image.
The installation is not finished yet but I'll post when I make progress.

Anyone had any joy with dovecot. With the old debian image it ran version 1.x without too much bother. Since moving to the rapbian image dovecot 2.x installs instead and can't get the thing to authenticate at all let alone with SSL.

If anyone has this working, it would be great to hear.

Have managed a botch togther using courier, but again no ssl for some reason. Suspect a postfix config issue but cant see it???

No joy yet. That's not dovecots fault. The HD I want to use has not been delivered yet.

I found this guide useful in spite of it being for CentOS:

So finally my recipe:
I set up the dovecot in Debian 6.0 by executing the following three lines:

sudo bash
apt-get install dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d
echo "mail_location = maildir:/home/%u/Maildir" > /etc/dovecot/conf.d/30-mailLoc.conf

Well, I needed more lines to find out that what I needed were those.

I hardened security slightly by setting up a new ssh-key:
sudo rm /etc/ssh/ssh_host_* && sudo dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server
and changing pis password.

For a quick test I can recommend the small example at the end of:
http://docs.python.org/library/imaplib.html
dovecot -n prints the actual configuration.

Don't worry about activating encrypted connections. By default both SSL and non SSL versions are activated.

Hope this helps!

Is there an easy way to get sasl to work? I've tried to get it to work, but no luck. Are there any special packages that need to be installed?

@Lirex or @All:

I run Postfix Dovecot and Fetchmail on Ubuntu. I wanted to install it on a PI but i have some problems. On Ubuntu i installed the package "dovecot-postfix" which integrated dovecot sasl in postfix. On the pi these package are not available. Do you configured sasl for Dovecot and Postfix manually? How does it works?

This tutorial should help setting up an IMAP mail server with dovecot, postfix and fetchmail on Raspberry Pi:

Hello,

Sorry, for the off topic

Is there anyone who has a web interface for Postfix.
http://www.postfix.org/addon.html

I hope someone can help me. Further

Thank you.
