I have read a lot in this forum and I think lots of people have the same problem - DRIVERS. My suggestion, why don't include some drivers, so the raspberry runs out of the box with WIFI und also some capture cards? Lets just choose the top 5 drivers! I know compiling myself a build is one solution, but thats not the option I want to talk about. By the way, where do I find a console in openelec.

Some informations:

I'll skip over the drivers part, but, getting a console in openelec requires 2 things.

First: Enable ssh in the cmdline.txt by adding the command ssh to the end (you probably have that already?)

Second: Connect over ssh, using a program of your choice, in Windows I'd suggest PuTTY, on a unix system you can typically do it through a terminal.

Username: root
Password: openelec

That should give you a console.

I bought a VAO11g Wireles Bridge. It works, but the Raspberry delivers not as much power as the Bridge needs. So I am using a externel power source. Well, its still a very easy solution!
