Hi Everyone,

I am trying to install the RPi.GPIO libraries into Python on Wheezy, however the following line appears:
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

Any suggestions,

Hi, you probably need to post more detailed information, such as exactly what commands you are typing and exactly what output you get from them. Or, you could download the latest Raspbian SD card image and use that, as I believe the RPi.GPIO libraries are already installed there.

Hi rgh,

I am trying to use the pins 11 and 6 to flash an led. I have the latest image ( I downloaded it today after having a few problems before), however I am using: sudo python setup.py install ,which runs fine until the last line that I put in my last post.

Hi,

sorry about that I just got it working. I didn't have to do anything to the libraries at all but I can flash an led off the GPIO ports. Thanks though, you were right of course. :)

Thanks,

Is there really not anything more descriptive before the last line? Quite often (not always) gcc outputs several lines to describe the issue in more detail...

(I have not used RPi.GPIO myself - I am using WiringPi ...without any issues so far)

The point is that you do not need to install any setup file or use gcc fullstop - RPi.GPIO is installed and ready to go with Raspbian images and has been for some time. You do however need to install wiringpi for python if you wish to use that.

Sometimes I wish for a pessimistic locking forum software - during the couple of minutes me writing, the OP had already solved his issue and reposted...
