wont start

I have put debian6-19-04-2012 on my sd card, started the Pi up, sat logged in and are now faced with
pi@raspberrypi:~$
what now?
pardon my stupidity im new to this and slightly lost...
all help appreciated.. :o

Depends what you want to do, but typing

startx

might be a one first step

yeah i discovered that i needed to type start x..... now i feel stupid....

You've been successfully logged in. You can enter UNIX/Linux commands, or if you want to be more comfortable, type "startx"
