Hi,
I would like to use RPI but do not have any HDMI screen. Has anyone tried X11 forwarding via ssh successfully? I tried on a Raspbmc configuration - without success.

Yes, that should work fine.
Unemployed software engineer currently specialising in camera drivers and frameworks, but can put mind to most embedded tasks. Got a job in N.Cambridge or surroundings? I'm interested!

Yes with Xming and Starnet X-win32 X-Windows emulation.

You cannot view XBMC with X11 forwarding it's not an X11 application.

I found out what was the problem:

X11 forwarding works on my raspbmc BUT:

xbmc does not use X for grafics output due to performance reasons. Meaning that X11 forwarding and possibly also using VNC for remote controll are not applicable.

I think I need to get some HDMI capable monitor or TV.

If you want to view your Raspberry PI native screen on a PC then you need a video capture device with composite video input preferably PCI for low latency and higher resolution.
I'm using an extremely old PCI capture card (BT878 chipset) with XP and 3rd party tools (DScaler + BTWincap) which works well with the PI (except for the nasty chromatic artefacts of composite video).
