Multiple Pages - penultimate problem

When a link has multiple pages these are shown in squares.
When you receive a email notification and click on the link you are always taken to the first page.
When the thread is long you will see the first few pages, then dots and then the last page.
So far so good, however if you want the penultimate page there is no way of getting to it other than keep hitting the maximum lower group of pages.
What should happen is that instead of just showing the last page it should show the last and the penultimate page. It would make navigation so much easier and is what other forums seem to do.

When I go to the last page there is no way (that I know of) to go back. Is there something to click that will do that?

Look top right - on a multi-page post it shows the previous 4 or 5 pages which you can click on directly. Might depwnd which format you're using?
