Cracking SD Card

Hey,

After almost 2 months of playing with my RasPi I discovered that my SD card is broken. It cracked on the corners that way that it can be noticeable almost only when it is in the SD slot in RaspberryPi... Am I the only one having this problem?

I have the exact same problem. I actually just noticed today.
And the Pi's been acting more and more buggy/crashy lately and pretty much stopped booting altogether today. Maybe it's because of this...

The SD slot on the Pi really puts a lot of pressure on the cards, without giving the card much support (try pushing down the pins with your fingernail). It's apparently too much pressure to put on a flimsy bit of plastic and PCB.

Update: If I press down on the SD card in the slot (on the "label side"), it boots fine. It crashes as soon as I release it. The green OK LED starts doing 3 flashes, which I'm guessing is some kind of error code...

Anyone have any suggestions on fixing this? Maybe gluing some kind of support structure on the SD slot will prevent the SD card from bending too much. Right now, my temporary solution is to use a clamp, but that kind of ruins the form factor of the Pi. ;)

my PC detects SD card as always so the card isn't broken but unfortunately I can't boot my RasPi with this card any more. I have the other, MicroSD with SD adapter and this card works like a charm. Im a little bit disappointed because Adata card wasn't cheap

Had the same problem, top left corner broke off.

Card still works fine in any other device, just no longer in the Pi.

Hey,

I was managed to fix my problem...not a beauty way but it works like I wanted;)

Take some old discount or credit card and cut off sd card shape:

As You can see:

sd card has big chip on the back and no elements on the socket side so I decided to cut off thin strip from the donor card and to glue it to the sd shape so it will prevent sd card from bending. I had to grind the strip a little bit to make sd card thickness aproximately standard.

Complete work looks like this:

As I said at the beginning, it doesn't look great but it is sitting strongly in the socket so my objective has been achieved
