Ben Heck's Raspberry Pi case (which looks *suspiciously* like a BBC Micro...)

We met Ben, King of the Modders, at Maker Faire back in May. He’s a stand-up chap, and took a Raspberry Pi home with him. Here’s what he did with it.

Ben's Raspberry Pi case

It flips up like a writing desk so you can keep things inside it, it's got a slot for "cartridges" (which you can also hack together at home) - I wish my Beeb had come with all these bells and whistles.

Here’s the episode of element14′s Ben Heck show which shows you what to do. Files for the case itself are available too; you’ll need to use a laser cutter, which is a great excuse to join a local Make Space, Hackspace or another hackers collective (there’s a large and growing list of where you can find such things at hackerspaces.org). element14 are also running a competition which closes August 18, where you can win the case featured in these pics and video. Thanks Ben – we love it. I hope we can get together again soon!

Replacement cables are available, with length ranging from 5 cm to 30 cm. I haven't tried one of these, but I think they are stock 15-conductor flex cables and should just work.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AlienSpec-CSI-DSI-Camera-Ribbon-Cable-5cm-10cm-15cm-20cm-30cm-for-Raspberry-Pi-/121051772597

Mine had the exact symptoms that cmarty's had and the fix was the same. I had tried just pushing on it before but a couple days ago got it working when I unplugged and then reconnected it.

Hey, I will put the source up on github or somewhere this weekend. It runs very smoothly at the default resolutions (320x240 or 640x480) and it's kind of still playable at 720p but rather than wait to iron out all…

Almost broke my ribbon connector today - I can see a market for some replacements or something a little more robust for us heavy handed 'sausage finger' types. Poking the ribbon out through the Ethernet connector hole on my case…
